The Cage

The Cage outside King's
Every term, CUAI organises a Cage in order to highlight the case of a particular prisoner of conscience. The Cage is set up outside King’s College from 6pm on Friday to 6pm on Sunday. Anyone is very welcome to volunteer for a 2 hour shift, either on the stall or to sit in the Cage.
The Lent Cage will be on Friday 26th to Sunday 28th February outside Kings College. We aim to gather hundreds of signatures for our petition calling for the release of the Burmese pro-democracy campaigner, Aung San Suu Kyi, who has spent 13 of the past 20 years in detention and has recently been sentenced to a further 18 months of house arrest, keeping her locked away until after Burma’s next general election. Until she is released unconditionally, there can be no genuine improvement in the human rights situation in Burma. Through her courage and commitment to non-violent protest, she has become a symbol of hope and inspiration in her own country and around the world.
To volunteer to sit in the Cage for 2 hours or to man the stall and gather signatures, please email Emma Johnston at efcj2@cam.ac.uk.

The Cage weekend is a termly event which has occured for nearly 20 years outside Kings College. Thousands upon thousands of student activists have supported prisoners of conscience through volunteering their time and spreading awareness of each case. To volunteer for the Cage is to be a part of Cambridge activist history.
